Robinsons HC is Bristol’s strongest Mens hockey club and enjoys close links with Clifton Ladies HC - the regions strongest Ladies club. The Club is based at Bristol Lawn Tennis Club, a fabulous facility in the heart of Redland and a short distance from the two excellent Astroturf pitches shared with CLHC at Badminton and Red Maids schools. The 1st team is a prominent force in West Premier 1, aiming to improve on their runners-ups spot last year, in what was a year of consolidation. The 2nd XI play one division lower in Prem 2 and is a blend of exciting young players with many of the older experienced players who helped Robinsons dominate West hockey in the late 90s. The 3s and 4s provide competitive hockey at a lower level which is just as enjoyable but involves less travelling.
Professional coaching sessions are run throughout the season on Tuesday and Thursday nights by player-coach Shilen Tanna, a former Reading HC star. Robinsons welcomes players of all ages and standards (including anyone wishing to take up hockey for the first time) to what has historically always been (and remains) a very welcoming and friendly club. Formed in 1920 from a group of employees of the company ES&A Robinson, the club has grown and evolved significantly in the last two decades. Thanks primarily to its loyal older members, it has a long established touring tradition with ESANDARs (E.S AND A Robinson) being annual visitors to the Torbay Easter Festival for each and every one of the past 51 years! Other touring sides have from the club have attended overseas festivals in Barbados and Holland in recent years, as well as attending tours and tournaments in the UK.
The club has a strong Vets section with a number of players having represented England Veterans in Masters Hockey World Cups and also offers mixed hockey as well as Junior hockey - all run in conjunction with Clifton Ladies. The club gained national praise and acclaim for it’s very vocal and enthusiastic travelling support – The Blue Army - who took over the National hockey stadium at Milton Keynes during National League play-offs in 1998 and 1999. Since then Robinsons have been in the West Conference for one year and climbed to the giddy heights of Premier 1 of the English Indoor Hockey League for one season. Most of all, we always have loads of fun playing our hockey and socializing… and make and keep friends for life from doing so. Come and join us!
